Brewery news

Surly Brewing Company is planning to build a destination brewery in the Prospect Park neighborhood near Minnesota University, Twin Cities, US, following the recent law passed by Governor Mark Dayton allowing breweries to sell pints of beer on site prompted, The Drinks Business Review reported on October, 2

The proposed 8.3-acre site was formerly a potato processing plant and has undergone a century of industrial use, which would require $2.5m for clean-up of the site.

The $20m brewery will have beer hall, recreation space and festival gardens.

Surly real estate consultant Tom Hauschild said that the Prospect Park neighborhood site was chosen for its large size and proximity to public transit.

"We'd love to be brewing beer there in 2014," Hauschild added.

Surly owner Omar Ansari is also awaiting the clean-up grants from the city around January.

The company is also considering other sites in Minneapolis west of downtown and a spot in Brooklyn Center.
