Brewery news

Russia has dropped plans to enforce a ban on PET packaging for beer for all countries of the Customs Union, BelTA reported on November, 2, citing representatives of the Eurasian Economic Commission after a session of the Consultative committee for technical regulations, application of sanitary, veterinary, and phytosanitary measures under the Eurasian Economic Commission.

The requirement to ban using PET packaging for beer has been removed from the Customs Union draft technical regulation on the safety of alcohol products with approval from the Federal Service for Alcohol Market Regulation of Russia. The correlation of malted and unmalted raw materials used for beer manufacturing has been changed, remarks on labeling have been taken into account.

Belarus and Kazakhstan had opposed the move to ban PET packaging for beer.

The session of the Consultative committee for technical regulations, application of sanitary, veterinary, and phytosanitary measures decided to send the draft technical regulation on the safety of alcohol products for internal adjustment to the Customs Union member states.
