E-Malt.com News article: USA, OR: Seaside Brewing Co. to expand its beer-making capacity
Brewery news

After a successful summer that beat expectations, Seaside Brewing Co. is expanding its beer-making capacity, Seaside Signal reported on November, 4.

The restaurant and brew pub, which opened in June, released its first beer brewed with its new one-barrel, nano-brewing system.

“It’s an American strong ale and we named it Barrel One because it was our first barrel on this system. We’re excited about it,” said restaurant co-owner Vince Berg.

One barrel is equal to two kegs, and the new system is just enough to supply the pub during the slow season. In the next 90 to 120 days, Berg expects to have an expanded 15-barrel brewing system installed at the restaurant.

“The stuff on this system, it will just be for stuff on tap,” Berg said of the nano-brewing system. “Once we get the 15-barrel going, it will still be brewing for the pub, but at that point we’ll be brewing enough that if other places wanted to carry it, they’d be welcome to.”

He said the plan isn’t to sign on with a distributor, but to sell the kegs locally.

Now that business has slowed down, Berg and Griffin are once again focusing on their beer. Though they did brew a few kegs with an earlier system over the summer, “we flew through that stuff too fast” and it wasn’t possible to keep the beer consistently on tap.

The plan is to have eight to ten of Seaside Brewing Co.’s own beers on tap, year-round, using both the one-barrel and 15-barrel brewing systems.

“We’re going to be brewing four times a week,” Berg said. “We’re hoping people come in and watch it and see it and get excited about it.”

The one-barrel system – prominently on display near the front entrance – will continue to be used for special batches and experimental brews.
