Brewery news

As if they found anymore hours in the day, Druid City Brewing Company (DCBC) owners and busybodies Elliott Roberts and Bo Hicks have brewed enough of their new Riverside Saison to share with all of Tuscaloosa, al.com reported on February, 20.

Saison is a farmhouse ale traditionally brewed in the winter for drinking in the summer by farm workers, originally in the French-speaking area of Belgium.

Roberts says it's a crisp and tart beer designed to be refreshing during a hard day's work.

Hicks says the reception so far has been pretty positive.

Brewing the saison on top of their pale ale and wheat beer, Roberts and Hicks have little time to spare, but they insist it's worth the extra hours.

"Bo and I are working night and day to keep up with demand, so it's been great," Roberts says. "Folks have been really receptive. It has sold really well. All of our accounts that I know of have been very pleased with the sales."

The pale ale is still their number one seller, while the more obscure wheat offering and new saison reflect new chances and directions the brewery wants to continue taking in the near future.

You can find DCBC beers at the following locations: Wilhagan's, Egan's, The Alcove International Tavern, Downtown Pub, Mellow Mushroom, Corks & Tops, Cypress Inn, Jim 'N Nick's, Billy's in Northport, Clark's in Northport, Houndstooth, Crimson Tavern, Innisfree, Grey Lady, Epiphany Cafe and soon at Buffalo Phil's.

"It's getting to where it's hard to keep up with them," Hicks says. "This is a definite labor of love. Both still working our day jobs while trying to do this whenever we can squeeze in time. We're looking forward to this being our forever job so we can do this more often."
