Brewery news

The plethora of beers on Arizona store shelves may soon have some new Texas-sized competition.

Pedernales Brewing Co., a craft brewer out of Fredericksburg, Texas, is searching for an Arizona distributor to bring its line of brews to the Grand Canyon State, Phoenix Business Journal reported on January 8.

The San Antonio Business Journal wrote on January 8 that Pedernales is one of the many Texas breweries taking advantage of loosened regulations that allow Texas-based breweries to better compete outside the state.

Since shipping its first batch of brew in April 2012, Pedernales has gained 13 Texas distributors, as well as distribution in New Mexico. The brewery even sells south of the border in Mexico.
Now it has its sights set on further expansion, including Arizona.

When Arizonans can expect to see Pedernales beer on shelves or on tap is unknown. But Pedernales will find stiff competition with a slew of national brands that currently sell in Arizona, as well as a strong slate of beer from homegrown craft breweries such as Chandler-based SanTan Brewing Co., Tempe-based Four Peaks Brewing Co. and Phoenix-based Phoenix Ale Brewery.

Both SanTan and Four Peaks have opened new multimillion-dollar brewing facilities in the past 14 months to fuel demand. Another Arizona brewery, Williams-based Grand Canyon Brewing Co., also plans to move into new brewing digs this year because of demand and expansion.
