Brewery news

Danish beer maker Mikkel Borg Bjergsø is planning to establish a joint venture (JV) with US-based AleSmith Brewing, Drinks Business Review reported on February 20.

Expected to be launched in June, the proposed JV, along with AleSmith's existing brewery, will produce Mikkeller branded beers.

Bjergsø and AleSmith owner Peter Zien will both own certain stake in the JV, which will be capable of producing 15,000 barrels of beer annually, with plans to increase capacity over the future.

However, the amount of stake to be owned by the partners is not revealed.

Commenting on the JV, Bjergsø was quoted by U-T San Diego as saying that establishing an American outpost will help alleviate some of the troubles associated with shipping beers from Europe to the US.

Meanwhile, Bjergsø is also planning to open a new brewpub WarPigs in Denmark, under a partnership with 3 Floyds Brewing.
