Brewery news

Emmaus Borough Council might want to rename Bank Street "Brewery Lane" or "Distillery Drive", Allentown Morning Call reported on September 11.

That's because the street, which is essentially an alley, will likely be the home of two craft breweries and one craft distillery within the next year.

A craft distillery, Triple Sun Spirits Co., and a craft brewery, Yergey Brewing LLC, got the approvals from Emmaus Borough Council to operate at 518 Bank St. Funk Brewing Co. is already in operation just down the street at South Sixth and Bank streets.

Emmaus Borough Council on September 8 granted the request for conditional-use approval for Triple Sun Spirits and Yergey Brewing after hearing the companies' plans for parking, hours of operation and entrances.

Triple Sun Spirits plans to make gin, rum and whiskey, according to Kristofer Kwant of Coplay, a spirits enthusiast who applied for the conditional-use approval. He said he has the necessary equipment and hopes to be in operation as soon as November.

James Yergey said he still has to order his equipment, which might take a while to arrive. He's looking at a 2016 opening.
