Big Stump Brewing Co. plans to team up with Old Soul Co., an artisanal coffee roaster, in midtown Sacramento, Sacramento Business Journal reported on September 23.

“We believe that the combination of a craft microbrewery with an artisanal coffee roaster will be one of the most exciting concepts in downtown Sacramento,” the project narrative in the application states. A taproom would take up about 1,200 square feet in the building, with most of the rest used for microbrewing.

According to the project narrative, Big Stump Brewing Co. would not include a restaurant, but Old Soul would have a complementary menu with a brew-pub theme as part of their operation.

The listed applicant, Alex Larrabee, said he’d submitted the proposal to the city late last week. “We’re really excited,” Larrabee said, but added he couldn’t discuss the matter further when reached on September 22.

The application states the proponent is planning to meet with neighbours and Midtown Business Association. However, MBA executive director Emily Baime Michaels said midtown should find a way to be part of the current craft beer craze.

A website for the brewery suggests opening in the first quarter of 2016.
