The Captain's Cabin building at the corner of Vincent Moraga Drive and Rancho California Road in Temecula is being renovated for use by Ballast Point Brewing and Spirits, a San Diego County-based brewer known for its Sculpin and Big Eye IPA beers, Press-Enterprise reported on September 24.

This will be the first Riverside County location for the company, which has four tasting rooms in San Diego County.

Randy Roth of Fairway & Ranch Realty said the renovation will be extensive, a complete re-imagining of the building that will include big patios and open space. "It's going to look great," Roth said.

Roth said he's heard the Ballast Point Brewing’s restaurant could be open as soon as November.

Luke Watson, Temecula's director of community development, said in an email on September 24 the Ballast Point project was an administrative approval that was not required to go before the Planning Commission.

"Ballast Point Brewing is through the planning process and is nearly ready to pull their building permits. Once they pull building permits they can begin construction," Watson said.

Alec Clifton, a brewer for Ironfire, said the addition of Ballast Point Brewing will be great for the area, making it an even more desirable destination for craft beer fans.

"It's going to be a corridor, it's going to be great," Clifton said.

Many of the breweries opened in 2012/13, a turning point for the region that changed Temecula into a beer and wine town in the span of three months.

Although there have been fears of market saturation, all of the breweries that opened during that burst remain in business and many have expanded their operations.
