Brewery news

A brewery that announced its opening plans and ran a crowdfunding campaign in the summer of 2015 has revealed that it may not open after all due to “a year of extremely bad luck”, Canadian Beer News reported on October 28.

One Duck Brewing was being established by long-time homebrewer Jesse Paine, with the intention of brewing small batches of primarily Belgian-inspired ales. But in a post on the brewery’s Facebook page last week, it was announced that those plans are now on hold:

The most recent situation is that the man who sold One Duck brewing equipment actually did not own the equipment as he was in debt to a mortgage company. As a result ODB has put all operations on hold for the last few months to try and resolve this situation. After hiring lawyers and consulting with anyone who can offer advice One Duck is on the verge of closing up shop (before even opening its doors) and filing for bankruptcy.

The post goes on to note that Paine is “hoping for a change of luck and to somehow get brewing, however the chances of that happening at this point are looking pretty slim.”

It has not been stated what restitution, if any, will be offered to the contributors to the Kickstarter campaign which raised C$16,045 for the brewery.
