E-Malt.com News article: Canada, AB: Elbeck Brews set to release its first beers soon
Brewery news

Prairie beer news site On Beer reports that a “gypsy brewing” operation from an Edmonton-based brewing veteran is getting set to release its first beers soon.

Elbeck Brews is being launched by Bruce Sample, a long-time homebrewer who has also worked at several Alberta breweries over the past decade, most recently serving as head brewer at Yellowhead Brewing.

Named after the street in Houston, Texas where Sample and his wife lived in 1980s and 1990s – and where he discovered craft beer and started his homebrewing experiments – Elbeck will be debuting with KGB Russian Imperial Stout, a revival of beer that took the Best of Show award at the Edmonton Homebrewers’ Guild annual competition several years ago. Future planned releases include a series of flavoured porters and an oat-based IPA.

The initial Elbeck beers are being brewed at the Two Sergeants Brewing in Port Saskatchewan, and Sample says that he “hope[s] in a year or so to be brewing at three different breweries, offering different packaging and style options.” In the longer term, he intends to open an Elbeck brewpub and production facility.
