Brewery news

Ghost River Brewing Co. will open a second location at 341-345 Beale in Memphis, Ghost River and Beale Street Management announced Tuesday, May 18.

The city’s first craft brewery, at 827 S. Main, anticipates holding a grand opening in July for its second site.

Ghost River Beale will comprise the food of chef Sobie Johnson of Flying Sobie’s Gourmet Kitchen, a taproom, an outdoor beer garden and live music.

The 14-year-old Ghost River is independently owned and operated.

The new site will be near the east end of the entertainment district.

Ghost River Brewing owner Bob Keskey said in a prepared statement that Beale Street and Ghost River will be a great partnership, “giving Memphians and tourists easier access to our assortment of hand-crafted beers — and we couldn’t be happier to help add to the vibrancy of Beale.”

Ghost River first became aware of chef Sobie Johnson because of his following within the food truck community.

Ghost River will provide the kitchen buildout and equipment, and Johnson will provide the food, including his signature ground chicken burgers. The Beale location will be Johnson’s first brick-and-mortar location.

“We are really looking forward to what the Ghost River/Flying Sobie’s team is going to bring to the street,” Jon Shivers, manager of Beale Street, said in the release. “Their timing couldn’t be better — Grizzlies are in the playoffs, we are gearing up for summer concerts, great weather, 901 FC and Redbirds games are ramping up. This is perfect beer and burger season.”
