E-Malt.com News article: USA: Annexation and taxing requests that advance the International Malting Co. plant

City commissioners scheduled May 17 public hearings on annexation and taxing requests that advance the International Malting Co. (IMC) plant north of Great Falls, Great Falls Tribune commented.

To be annexed are 45.5 acres of the International Malting Co. Addition and segments of U.S. Highway 87 and Bootlegger Trail. The property is the site of the enormous malting facility and a corridor for utilities and private access, and it will be zoned for industrial use.

The city recently completed extension of water and sewer mains to the site, and IMC has built a storm water detention facility north of the plant.

In addition, the company has installed a 12-inch main to supply water from Giant Springs to the site. The untreated spring water will be used in the germination process for the malting barley.

The city wants to create a tax increment district to pay for an interest in the rail line in order to make it available to serve other industries that may locate in the Agri-Business Park in the future. The proposal will be aired at a May 17 public hearing.
