Mozambique’s Laurentina beer has officially been launched onto the British drinks market at a ceremony attended by the country’s high commissioner in London, António Gumende, Macauhub released June 26..

Africa Bia, which markets Laurentina beer, has announced it will export 100,000 bottles of the Mozambican beverage to the UK by the end of 2006.

The beer is produced by the CDM brewery, in which SABMiller of South Africa has a 49.1% shareholding. This company also markets Laurentina in South Africa and the UK, with annual sales worth about US$ 150,000.

Laurentina has about 20% of Mozambique’s domestic beer market and records annual sales of about US$ 25 million.

The beer has been made for about 75 years and its name means a native of Lourenço Marques, the former name for the Mozambican capital during the Portuguese colonial era.

SABMiller also produces the beer brands 2M and Manica in Mozambique at CDN’s breweries in Maputo and Beira.
