Manchester-based Hydes Brewery has doubled the size of its Moss Side Brewery site with the completion of a land purchase from Manchester City Council, the Morning Advertiser posted September 14.

The land acquisition has come about as part of a successful partnership approach between Manchester City Council, Hydes Brewery and previous tenant on the land the Moss Side and Hulme Community Development Trust.

The Brewery has now been able to complete the freehold purchase of the land, increasing the site by a further 1.3 acres allowing the potential for significant expansion of the business.

The investment enables Hydes to increase brewing and distribution facilities as the need arises in the future. Paul Jefferies, director at Hydes in charge of production, said: “We are delighted to have reached a conclusion in this project that is beneficial to The Council and the Moss Side Community Development Trust as well as ourselves.

“The current brewery building has been operating since 1899, and as a listed building it has been hard to accommodate the growth of our brewing business – we have literally been bursting at the seams.”

The Brewery currently produces over 80,000 barrels as year from its current site.

Jefferies added: “We have invested heavily in modern equipment for the brewing process in recent years, and this extension of the site will allow us to now better facilitate the increasing volumes of both our own beer, and those we brew on contract.”

Established in 1863, Hydes Brewery is one of the few British regional breweries that is still owned and managed as a family business. Hydes Brewery has an estate of more than 80 Managed and Tenanted pubs across the North West of UK and a growing portfolio of own-brewed beers and lagers.
