Brewery news

Saturday, August 20 will present the first opportunity to sample beers from Detroit Lakes’ newest brewery, Bucks Mill Brewing, the Lakes Area Radio reported on August 16.

The brewery plans to bring four beers to the Detroit Lakes Craft Beer Tour at the Washington Ballpark, Saturday, August 20. The event, in its fourth year features more than 100 craft beers to sample from a variety of regional breweries.

Bucks Mill Brewing will have two blondes to sample - Ole and Lena. “We spiced Lena with Lemongrass and it gives it a nice tea-like flavor,” said Tyler Hawkins, Head Brewer at Bucks Mill Brewing. “Ole is more a crisp, light beer – a crowd pleaser.” The Hazy, made with Mosaic and Citra, and a Red Ale round out the beers the brewery plans to bring to the event.

And if the final inspection process happens as anticipated, Bucks Mill Brewing’s downtown location may be open by this weekend.

“We’re at the point now where there’s just some finishing touches to be done in the building, but then we also have a series of inspections to be done this week,” said Henry Van Offelen, one of the brewery’s founders. “If those inspections are done and completed, after the craft beer event we hope our doors will be open.”

The brewery, located in the former Hometown Crafts and Fabrics in the Washington Square Mall has undergone significant renovations to become a destination for Lakes Area residents and vacationers.

The brewery features more than 7,000 square-feet with an overlook into the brewing space in the basement, plenty of seating including outdoor seating and a balcony and meeting room.

When the brewery officially opens they plan to be open 7 days a week, feature a dozen or more beers on tap and offer beer to-go in growlers, crowlers and eventually cans.
