Brewery news USA, CA: Latitude 33 Brewing Company to open a new location in San Diego
Latitude 33 Brewing Company, a notable name in San Diego’s craft beer scene, is preparing to open a new location in Del Mar at 12841 El Camino Real, Suite 301-303.

The company’s newest location is set to move into the former home of Northern Pine Brewing on the second floor of the Sky Deck at Del Mar Highlands Town Center, according to a recent liquor license application that SanDiegoville recently reported.

Northern Pine Brewing also recently announced the closure of its Oceanside location at 326 N. Horne Street after seven years, following a dispute with its landlords over the sale of its kitchen.

Latitude 33 Brewing will take its Del Mar space, which is expected to open later this year, although an exact opening date is unknown. This proves to be another impressive step for the company, considering last year Latitude 33 acquired Thorn Brewing, a San Diego-based brewery with locations in North Park and Barrio Logan, further establishing itself in San Diego’s crowded beer scene.

Latitude 33 Brewing Company was founded in 2012 by brewmaster Kevin Buckley in Vista, where it gained early attention for its experimental beers. In 2014, entrepreneur Mike Ingram acquired the company and shifted its focus to ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, UT: Monster Beverage Corp. shutting down its Salt Lake City brewery
A major beer brand is shutting down its Salt Lake City brewery and laying off its employees, NJ.com reported on April 17.

Monster Beverage Corp., the makers of Monster Energy Drink, is closing down their Salt Lake City brewing facilities on May 23 and laying off 25 people, according to The Street.

Monster Brewing, which is the parent company of Squatters Craft Beer and Wasatch Brewery, stated that it would not renew its lease on the facilities and shift production of the beer brands to other breweries outside Utah.

Squatters and Wasatch will start brewing in their new facilities on May 27.

Although beer production will be shifted out of Utah, the beer itself will still be sold in the state.

The brewery closings will result in 25 layoffs, and all affected employees will be offered a severance package and will be encouraged to apply for other jobs within the company.

Monster acquired Squatters and Wasatch in January 2022, after a $330 million purchase of CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective.

Brewery news USA, CO: Tivoli Brewing Company leaving the Auraria Campus in Denver
Tivoli Brewing Company is ending its 10-year run on the Auraria Campus in Denver, Denverite reported on April 15.

The taphouse has been closed since Dec. 16, but the campus and the beer company said they were working on a new lease.

That never happened, and the closure of the taphouse became official with a joint announcement on Tuesday.

“We appreciate Tivoli Brewing Company’s contributions over the years and extend our best wishes for their future endeavors,” read a statement from the Auraria Campus, which is home to CU Denver, Community College of Denver and MSU Denver.

Ari Opsahl, the CEO of Tivoli Brewing Co., previously said it could be difficult to operate a bar on a college campus.

“Parking can be a challenge. Most of our business is driven by either students on campus, obviously above 21, or events at Ball Arena,” Opsahl told Denverite earlier this year. “When those two things are not there, it is extremely difficult to pull consumers and customers into the taphouse.”

The taphouse was a popular spot for Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche fans on their way to Ball Arena.

The “Colorado Brewery” was the first brewery in the state when it opened in Auraria in 1864, according to the ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, WI: Great Dane Pub and Brewing Company’s Wausau location to close for good on April 19
The Great Dane Pub and Brewing Company’s Wausau location will close permanently on Saturday, April 19, WSAW reported.

Last month, Eliot Butler, President and co-founder issued a statement announcing the closure.

In a conversation with NewsChannel 7 last month, the Executive Chef for The Great Dane Pub & Brewing Company’s restaurants Matt Pace said the closure points back to the pandemic when the large location’s event space was not being used. But he said this is not just a Great Dane issue.

“Ever since the pandemic, the restaurant industry as a whole has faced new, and sometimes, you know, tough challenges, and in particular, our location in Wausau was hit by those the most,” said Pace.

Pace pointed out the increase in core ingredient food costs has risen, increasing spending on kitchen necessities like sugar, flour, and cooking oil. He also pointed to a change in customer habits. The company has been brewing less beer because customers are drinking less beer, and they have seen fewer people coming in the doors.

“I think people are more selective with their discretionary spending, you know, maybe they have to make some choices, whereas they used to be able to, you know, dine out two or three times ...More info on site

Brewery news Taiwan: Finance ministry discussing protections for beer industry
Taiwan’s finance ministry is discussing protections for the beer industry as it investigates dumping accusations against Chinese beer exporters, Taiwan News reported on April 16.

The finance ministry said on Wednesday that it would produce guidelines to ensure beer labels clearly show the product’s origin. It also said it is discussing reducing tariffs on hops, malt, and other raw materials used by brewers, per CNA.

Speaking at the legislature, Finance Minister Chuang Tsui-yun said the ministry is investigating a complaint by the Taiwan Brewers Association alleging Chinese exporters are selling beer to Taiwan at prices that harm local producers.

Chuang said if the investigation finds dumping has occurred, the ministry’s tariff review body would review whether or not to impose anti-dumping taxes. Regarding labeling, Tsai said the treasury would publish a letter asking local governments to conduct thorough investigations to ensure the origin of domestic beer is clear to consumers.

Treasury Director Chen Pai-chen said the letter would inform businesses which items may lead consumers to believe products are produced somewhere they are not. Chen said the letter being drafted would also outline punishment for violators.

After the brewers' association complained, finance ministry officials said last month that the anti-dumping review would be finished as ...More info on site

Brewery news UK: Molson Coors launches Madrí Excepcional 0.0% in the UK
Molson Coors Beverage Company has launched Madrí Excepcional 0.0%, a zero-alcohol version of its popular Spanish style lager, which was created in partnership with La Sagra brewery in Spain, Belfast Telegraph reported on April 16.

As consumer demand for no- and low-alcohol world beer continues to grow, the alcohol-free lager has hit supermarket and convenience shelves and venues across Northern Ireland this month.

The number of drinkers choosing to moderate has also increased dramatically, up by 2.2m between 2016 and 2023, with more than half (53%) of 18–34-year-olds, and 59% of UK’s total adult population now trying to drink less alcohol. Some 64% of these no- and low-alcohol drinkers do so during at-home occasions.

Ann-Marie Brown, Customer Activation Manager NI at Molson Coors Beverage Company, said: “Consumers increasingly expect to see a no- and low-alcohol versions of their favourite beers. With Madri Excepcional fast becoming the flagship brand in the world beer category, launching 0.0% is a natural evolution for us.

“It means consumers can stick with one of their favourite beers, even when looking to moderate, and enables retailers to better cater for a growing no- and low-alcohol market, while still tapping into the popularity of the Madri Excepcional brand."

Madrí Excepcional is now ...More info on site
