Guinness Nigeria Plc has announced its unaudited financial results for the nine months ended 31 March 2025, delivering a strong performance that reflects the company’s strategic discipline, commercial agility, and commitment to long-term value creation, Nairametrics reported on April 25.
The business recorded a profit after tax of N6.7 billion, marking a significant recovery from the N61.6 billion loss posted in the prior year.
Revenue for the period surged by 71.6%, rising from N220.3 billion to N377.9 billion, driven by pricing actions, improved portfolio mix, and strengthened consumer demand across key categories.
Gross profit also grew by 53% to N103.5 billion, supported by proactive supply chain management and continued premiumization across key brands.
Operating profit increased by 32%, moving from N22.2 billion to N29.2 billion, as the company reaped the benefits of cost optimization, productivity enhancements, and efficient marketing investments. Despite a high inflationary environment and FX-related pressures, net finance costs were managed effectively, contributing to a N6.7 billion net profit.

Luxembourg’s Brasserie Nationale is investing €3.72m in a new filtration unit at its Bascharage site. The project combines industrial performance, product quality and environmental ambitions, Delano reported on April 24.
The project is divided into two parts: €2.12m for the latest-generation filtration equipment and €1.6m for infrastructure. The aim is to bring the facility into service in spring 2026, with completion of the construction work scheduled for next February.
This modernisation is part of the brewery’s drive to guarantee impeccable clarity. Filtration is a strategic stage in the beer-making process, for both qualitative and industrial reasons. By eliminating suspended particles from fermentation, breweries guarantee microbiological stability and a product that meets market expectations.
This process not only improves visual clarity, but also “produces a beer that is more stable over time,” said production director Maurice Treinen on the sidelines of the groundbreaking ceremony at Bascharage on Thursday, 24 April.
But the innovation goes beyond performance: the new facility promises to reduce the water consumption required for its operation. The result: energy savings and a smaller carbon footprint.

USA, MA: Boston Beer reports 5.3% increase in Q1 shipments

The Boston Beer Company, Inc. on April 24 reported financial results for the first quarter ended March 29, 2025.
Key results were:
First Quarter 2025 Summary:
• Depletions decreased 1% and shipments increased 5.3%
• Net revenue of $453.9 million increased 6.5%
• Gross margin of 48.3% up 460 basis points year over year
• Net income of $24.4 million, an increase of $11.8 million or 93.8% year over year
• Diluted income per share of $2.16, an increase of 108% year over year
Capital Structure
• Ended the first quarter with $152.5 million in cash and no debt
• Repurchased $61 million in shares from December 30, 2024 to April 18, 2025

Russia: Beer exports up 25% in early 2025
|
Russian beer exports have surged by 25% in early 2025, with over 33,000 metric tons shipped to countries including Belarus, China and Kazakhstan. The boost comes as domestic production slumps and brewers look eastward amid Western sanctions and market isolation, The Drinks Business reported on April 23.
The freight organisation AgroExport recently revealed that “according to [the] preliminary estimates of experts, Russian beer exports surged above 33,000 metric tons during three months of 2025”.
Analysts assessing the data highlighted how “compared to the like period of the last year, the volume of supplies increased by 25% in physical terms”.
The export company analysts also outlined that Belarus, Kazakhstan, China, Abkhazia and Tajikistan were the top five countries that were now the key importers of Russian beer in physical terms.
The estimates follow Russia’s domestic alcohol production recently plummeting amid tax hikes and anti-drinking measures. The drop in alcoholic drinks production, which fell by 25.6% in February 2025 to 19.9 million decalitres (daL), compared to 26.8 million daL in the same period last year marks the lowest production level for the first two months of the year since 2017. However, finding new export markets could be the next plan for Russian drinks producers.

Brazil: Beer industry supports 2.5 mln direct and indirect jobs in Brazil

The Brazilian beer industry supports 2.5 million direct and indirect jobs, according to new data released by Sindicerv during the Brazilian Beer Technology Fair, FreshlyBottled.com reported.
Sindicerv represents 85% of Brazil’s beer companies and highlighted the sector's significant contribution to the national economy.
Beer production accounts for 2% of Brazil’s GDP and generates €8 billion in taxes across the production chain.
With 1,847 registered breweries across the country, Brazil ranks as the third-largest beer producer in the world, behind China and the United States.

India: Indian brewers urge harmonization of imported beer duties
|
The Brewers’ Association of India, which represents producers that account for more than 85% of beers sold in India, has urged the government to harmonise beer levies between locally produced and imported beverages, AsiaBrewersNetwork reported on April 23.
Currently domestic brewers pay 150% plus 10% duty, whereas imports from Bhutan and Nepal face just 65% excise and no customs levy.
The disparity has allowed importers to undercut Indian brands by selling below the maximum retail price, the association said in a letter to state authorities. Moreover, Delhi’s failure to impose a countervailing duty has lost the government about INR20 (US$0.24) per bottle in tax revenue on imported beer, the letter added.
“Using the higher margin to put in trade and brand pushing, several brands from Bhutan are flooding the Delhi market,” claims Vinod Giri, the director general of the BAI, in its letter to the government. “Many of these brands are unknown, unheard of, and do not sell anywhere else in India. Very little is known of the breweries and quality standards followed in their production.”

UK: Coors becomes the latest beer in the UK to reduce abv to 3.4%
|
Coors has become the latest beer to see its abv reduced to 3.4% to take advantage of duty savings, The Grocer reported on April 25.
The reduction from 4% abv – which has coincided with a £6m brand investment – was part of a bid to win over “a new generation of shoppers”, said owner Molson Coors Beverage Company.
“The shift is part of Molson Coors’ commitment to offering more choice to consumers through its broad range of beers and ciders, including zero and lower alcohol options for consumers choosing to moderate or not to drink alcohol at all,” the brewer said.
Despite the change, Coors was still “the same great-tasting, refreshing mountain-cold beer” it insisted.
There have been widespread reformulations and a slew of new beers launched at 3.4% abv since changes to alcohol duty were made in August 2023.
Under the new system, booze at 3.4% abv and below is subject to duty of £9.61 per litre of pure alcohol (lpa) in the finished product, compared with £21.78/lpa for beers between 3.5% and 8.4% abv.
