Japan: Suntory set to revise prices for its products in October
|
Japanese drinks multinational Suntory is set to revise prices for its products in Japan as it grapples with rising costs, The Drinks Business reported on May 6.
Suntory Beverage & Food Limited has announced it will “implement price revisions” for products in Japan. The changes will impact shipments made on or after 1 October 2025.
In a statement announcing the price hikes, Suntory said it was facing increased costs in manufacturing, logistics and other operations as prices continue to rise in the Japanese economy.
The company said it could no longer absorb rising costs, resulting in price revisions.
The adjustments will impact products packaged in PET bottles, cans, and other containers. Specifically, prices for PET bottles will increase by 6% to 25%, while can prices will rise between 10% and 24%. However, Suntory did not detail which specific products would be impacted.
The statement asserted that the company “will remain committed to pursuing technological innovation and enhancing productivity, with the aim of continuing to enrich the lives of consumers by delivering safe, reliable, and high-quality products that offer new value”.
Japan’s economy is struggling due to the country’s increasing and ageing population, resulting in a shrinking workforce and increasing social care costs.
Added to that, US President

UK & USA: BrewDog reportedly looses almost £7 mln in the US last year
|
The Scottish beer giant BrewDog has reportedly lost almost £7 million in the United States last year as the company cuts back its operations, Yahoo!News reported on May 3.
The Ellon-based beer firm poured £4.2m into its stateside branch in 2024 but has recorded a loss of £6.7m, blaming a slowdown in the craft beer market, the Scottish Sun has reported.
“This is not pretty at all,” one shareholder told the newspaper, adding that the “whole situation looks pretty dire”.
It was reported that BrewDog has also slashed its operations in the US, with its brewery in Columbus, Ohio, running at 30% capacity.
The drinks firm has also cut the number of states they sell to from 33 to 14.
In a recovery bid dubbed Operation Slingshot, BrewDog has ramped up its production for other US companies with contract brewing up 544%.
However, CEO James Taylor reportedly insisted the US operation had turned a profit of £376,000.
He said: “It’s not a disappointing result at all.
“It’s not vast, but we’ve returned it back to profit. There is still much to do and a huge opportunity.”
Accounts also revealed BrewDog USA chief John Graham stood down at the start of the year after less than two years in the

UK: Heineken announces major investment plan to revamp and reopen dozens of pubs across the UK
|
Heineken is set to create around 1,000 jobs as part of a major investment plan which will revamp and reopen dozens of pubs across the UK, The Independent reported on May 5.
The Dutch brewing giant said it will provide a £40 million cash injection into its Star Pubs operation.
It said more than 600 of its 2,400 UK venues will receive investment funds to make improvements over the next year.
Bosses said the move is a “resounding vote of confidence” in the sector despite recent cost increases and pressure on consumer finances.
Works have already started or been completed to reopen 10 pubs so far this year, with further sites that are currently closed earmarked for investment to welcome customers again.
The company reopened 62 of its long-term closed pubs last year, leaving the business with its lowest level of closed venues since 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic hit.
Lawson Mountstevens, Star Pubs’ managing director, said: “Consistent investment – rather than a stop, start approach – and a strategy of creating great locals have been key to helping our pubs weather the storms of the last few years.
“Heineken sees firsthand the value in great British pubs and their ongoing popularity.
“It recognises that Brits love their
