Brewery news Ireland: C&C group delivers resilient set of FY25 results as leading beer and cider brands gain market share
Irish drinks group C&C delivered a resilient set of FY25 results with operating profit rising to €77.1 million and strong progress across its distribution arm, The Drinks Business reported on May 28.

There’s something reassuringly old-world in the measured resilience of C&C’s branded division, which delivered an “in-line performance” for the year to 28 February 2025. While net revenue across the group held firm at €1,665.5 million (up €13 million from FY2024), it’s margin uplift that stole the show.

Operating profit before exceptional items rose 28.5% to €77.1 million, while adjusted EBITDA grew 19.5% to €112 million. The company noted “improved operating margins in Branded and Distribution segments” — a welcome sign of operational discipline in a tough macroeconomic climate.

As chief executive Roger White said, “Our two leading brands, Tennent’s and Bulmers, gained market share and we see future growth opportunities for both.” Indeed, market-leading positions were maintained as the group began the relaunch of Magners, reporting “initial Off-Trade gains”.

The premium segment, long touted as a margin sweet spot for brewers, also gave reason for optimism. “Our Premium brand performance is encouraging, benefitting from ongoing consumer appeal for premium beer and cider,” said White.

More quietly, perhaps, the turnaround story within the Matthew ...More info on site

Brewery news Malaysia: Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia to invest further in brand premiumisation
Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd will continue to invest in brand premiumisation, product innovation and digital transformation while optimising costs to navigate a tougher macroeconomic environment “that may result in prolonged soft consumer sentiment”, The Star reported on May 29.

The brewery acknowledged that external headwinds and market uncertainty may dampen sentiment in the near term but said it remains committed to delivering sustainable value for shareholders and stakeholders.

For the first quarter ended March 31, 2025 (1Q25), Carlsberg saw its bottomline improve by 7.5% year-on-year despite almost a 9% drop in revenue.

Its managing director Stefano Clini believes the group “delivered a solid first quarter”, despite subdued consumer spending in 1Q25.

“We remain committed to staying agile and responsive to market dynamics and competition in both Malaysia and Singapore, ensuring that we continue delivering value to our consumers and stakeholders,” he noted in a statement.

“Our focus remains on executing our “Accelerate Premium” strategy by enhancing our premium brands, strengthening customer and consumer engagement, and driving sustainable value creation through differentiated offerings.”

For 1Q25, Carlsberg saw its topline drop by 8.67% to RM662.81mil from RM725.76mil in the previous corresponding quarter.

“The lower top-line performance was impacted by the shorter Chinese New Year (CNY) timing, as part of ...More info on site

Brewery news Nigeria: Benue to commence large-scale production of juice and beer from locally sourced crops in August
The Benue state government says it will commence large-scale production of juice and beer using locally sourced crops in August 2025, The Cable reported on May 28.

Raymond Asemakaha, managing director and chief executive officer of the Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC), detailed the plan on Tuesday during an inspection tour of infrastructure projects in Zone B.

A juice processing factory, owned by the Benue state government, has been comatose since 2015.

Asemakaha said the initiative is part of the state’s push for agro-industrialisation in a bid to strengthen the local economy while creating jobs.

He said several of the company’s ventures are nearing completion, including a juice factory set to begin operations in 90 days and a beer factory which is 90 percent complete.

“We are trying as much as possible to introduce businesses that will help drive the economy, including government participation,” he said.

“Local people will farm this cassava, they will farm this rice, and they will bring it here.

“We just visited the juice factory, and it is also going to start production in the next 90 days. We are tired of people coming to buy our oranges. We have the best oranges in the world today.”

He said beer production would rely ...More info on site
