Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital ingredient in beer.

Brewery news USA: AB InBev announces new $17 mln investment in Houston brewery
Anheuser-Busch InBev announced a new $17 mln investment in its Houston, Texas brewery, Yahoo! Finance reported on June 18.

This $17 mln investment in its Houston brewery is part of Anheuser-Busch’s Brewing Futures initiative, through which the company has committed to investing $300 mln in its facilities this year to create and sustain U.S. manufacturing jobs, the company said.

Brendan Whitworth, CEO, Anheuser-Busch, said: “Investing in our people and our facilities to drive economic prosperity is core to who we are. This investment in Houston is the latest example of Anheuser-Busch’s commitment to strengthen our local communities by creating and sustaining jobs and driving economic growth.” un

Brewery news USA: US expected to drop guidance to limit alcohol to one or two drinks per day, sources say
US dietary guidelines are expected to eliminate the long-standing recommendation that adults limit alcohol consumption to one or two drinks per day, according to three sources familiar with the matter, in what could be a major win for an industry threatened by heightened scrutiny of alcohol's health effects, The Straits Times reported on June 18.

The updated Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which could be released as early as June, are expected to include a brief statement encouraging Americans to drink in moderation or limit alcohol intake due to associated health risks, the sources said.

The guidelines are still under development and subject to change, two of the sources and a fourth individual familiar with the process said.

Currently, the recommendations advise limiting drinking to one serving or less per day for women and two or less for men, widely seen as a moderate level.

Similar guidelines exist in countries such as the United Kingdom, which advises limiting drinking to 14 units per week, while Canada, however, has adopted a more cautious stance, warning that health risks begin to increase after just two drinks per week.

The fourth source said that the scientific basis for recommending specific daily limits is limited, and the goal is to ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, NB: Ashland Brewing Company to officially open on June 19
A new brewery in Ashland is opening its doors this week, and it is aiming to become more than just a place to grab a drink, KOLN reported on June 18.

Ashland Brewing Company, also known as ABC, officially opens June 19. The brewery is launching with four original beers, but its vision extends far beyond the taps. The family-friendly space includes both indoor and outdoor pickleball courts, multiple cornhole sets, two full bars, a banquet room, a deck and a patio. An elevator makes the second flood accessible.

While they are beginning with a limited food menu, a full menu is coming soon.

Tim and Ashley Uryasz, owners of ABC, have deep ties to Ashland. They previously ran a restaurant downtown that burned down on Christmas Day in 2009. But the town has remained a meaningful place for the family.

“We are most proud of what we have built here, not just in terms of a building, but what we are building in terms of a legacy,” Ashly Uryasz said. “A place for people to gather and make memories together for generations to come.”

For Tim Uryasz, the project is about honoring family history and community roots.

“We are most proud of the partners that ...More info on site

Brewery news Belgium & USA: Duvel Moortgat brewing its Chouffe beer destined for the American market at one of its US facilities
The Duvel Moortgat Brewery that is based in Breendonk in Antwerp Province has been brewing one of its beers that is popular with American drinkers at a brewery in the United States since the end of last year, VRT News reported on June 17.

Since December 2024 all the Chouffe beer that is destined for the American market has been brewed at one of Duvel Moortgat’s breweries in the US. Previously all production of Chouffe took place in Belgium.

At the time the brewery said nothing about its decision to switch production of Chouffe intended for the US to the US. Having a production site withing the United States is advantageous given the higher import tariffs President Trump’s administration have imposed on goods from the EU.

Duvel Moortgat has long been active in the US. It owns three breweries, Ommegang, in New York State, Firestone Walker in California and Boulevard Brewing in Missouri. It is at the Boulevard Brewing that is now being used to brew Chouffe.

Brewery news USA, TN: New brewery on the way to East Nashville
A new brewery is on the way to East Nashville. Stoke Haus is heading to 948 Main Street, according to a recently filed permit. The space was formerly home to Crazy Gnome Brewery, which closed at the location in March to move to a new location in Inglewood, MSN reported on June 12.

Stoke Haus has been operating as a pop-up around Nashville, collaborating with local brands like Brave Idiot and Barrique Brewing, as they prepare their new space for opening. When the brewery opens, customers can expect “ice-cold haus brewed beer” and “real, bonafide, top-quality barbecue,” according to an Instagram announcement by the brand.

Chad Mueller and Mike Morbitzer are the team behind the new brewery concept. They both were brewers at fellow Nashville brewery Tennfold before launching the Stoke Haus brand.

They are targeting a late July opening, according to reporting by the Nashville Post.

Brewery news USA, WA: Silver City Brewery sold to Seattle-based Ackley Brands
Silver City Brewery will be shifting gears moving forward, Kitsap Sun reported on June 17.

Bremerton's award-winning brewery has been acquired by Seattle-based company Ackley Brands, the company announced on June 17. The brewery will still produce beer from its Bremerton brewery as well as maintain its distribution through Columbia Distributing.

Excluded from the acquisition is the Silver City Restaurant & Ale House in Silverdale, which will continue to be run separately.

Approaching their 30-year milestone in 2026, Silver City is widely considered a pioneer in the local brewing. Known for iconic beers like Tropic Haze, Ridgetop Red, Silver City Pils and Ride the Spiral, the 2025 World Beer Cup even awarded the brewery with gold and silver awards in May.

Brothers Scott and Steve Houmes founded Silver City in 1996, along with brewer Don Spencer. Initially a restaurant and brewery in Silverdale, Silver City expanded to open a tap room in Bremerton's Auto Center Way neighborhood in 2010. The new facility, where the beer has been brewed ever since, helped the company increase production and its reach has expanded from Washington State to distribute in five additional states now. Scott Houmes expressed his excitement in a statement, seeing the move as an opportunity ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, WI: 1840 Brewing Company closes after just over a year in business
After just over a year, 1840 Brewing Company in West Bend closed its doors on June 14, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported on June 16.

The taproom, which also has a location in Bay View that opened in 2017, cited financial reasons and operational delays that contributed to the closure.

The West Bend location opened in late April of 2024 in the bottom of The District apartments at 401 N. Main St.

1840 Brewing Company crafts "high quality ales, lagers, sours, and stouts with a focus on barrel aging and blending," according to its website.

There were several reasons that led 1840 Brewing Company to close its West Bend location, according to its Facebook post:

1840 Brewing Company opened 11 months later than originally planned and for seven of the months, the business paid rent when the business was not yet open.

The funds used to pay rent had been set aside for the kitchen and coffee shop. Therefore 1840 Brewing Company had to open as a taproom only and was without the two planned revenue streams of selling food from the kitchen or coffee.

Materials were not ordered in time, causing major delays, and several projects had to be done twice.

The business tried to renegotiate its debt, ...More info on site

Brewery news Canada, BC: Vancouver’s CowDog Brewing Company announces closure by the end of June
After opening in early 2024, Vancouver’s CowDog Brewing Company has made the unfortunate announcement that it will be closing its doors, Daily Hive Vancouver reported on June 17.

“With heavy hearts, we’re announcing that CowDog Brew Company will be closing its doors at the end of this month,” shared the brewery.

For those unfamiliar, CowDog Brewing opened in the former location of Callister Brewing’s Tap House in East Vancouver. It was the passion project of owner Michael Hodgson and his four-legged chief treat-tasting officer, Louis, a.k.a. CowDog.

However, CowDog Brewing plans to go out in style with one final get-together on June 29.

“Before we say goodbye, we invite you to join us for one final event on Sunday, June 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. — a fundraiser for Lifting Stars Veterinary Homecare and their amazing Angel Fund,” said the brewery. “We’ll be tapping a special saison brewed in collaboration with Lifting Stars, and we want to go out on a high note by selling out the keg for a great cause!”

“Bring your growlers, bring your friends, bring your well-mannered dogs, and help us make this last hurrah something truly special. Let’s raise a glass (and some funds) together one more time,” concluded ...More info on site

Brewery news Canada, PE: Upstreet Craft Brewing closes its doors after failing to restructure debt
Upstreet Craft Brewing has closed its doors for the last time, SaltWire reported on June 18.

The Charlottetown brewery and its downtown branch, Craft Beer Corner, shut down on June 17 after the company attempted to seek protection from its creditors, a June 17 social media post said.

“After 10 unforgettable years of brewing, building community and creating something we deeply believed in, we are shutting down operations.”

Upstreet tried to restructure its debt, and the company thought it had a solid plan, but creditors turned it down.

The decision to close comes after years of rising costs, extreme storm damage and industry challenges, said the post, signed by “Mitch, Hogie, Marsha, Joel and the Upstreet Team.”

The post addresses both the Upstreet staff and customers. It thanks the customers for their support and for participating in events like trivia nights.

And to the team it says: “There are no words strong enough. You brought life, laughter and magic into these walls every single day. You are Upstreet. Thank you for your loyalty, your talent and your belief in what we built. You made this place home.”

The Facebook post had 330 comments, more than 1,800 reactions and 258 shares on the morning of June 18.
