EU & USA: Heineken open to moving production to US

Dutch brewer Heineken's shares slid over 8% on July 28 as a forecast-beating profit rise was eclipsed by investor worries over second-half profits and volumes, which Heineken warned may be softer as tariffs weigh on confidence, Reuters reported.
The world's No.2 brewer welcomed a trade deal struck between the European Union and the United States and said on Monday that it was weighing all options to deal with growing tariff challenges in the long term, including shifting manufacturing.
Its shares closed down 8.45% despite a 7.4% rise in first-half profit, above analyst estimates, for which it credited growth in once-difficult regions like Africa and Asia as well as cost savings. Beer sales volumes, however, dipped 1.2%.
Analysts and investors pointed to Heineken's warning that volumes would be softer than expected for the remainder of the year as U.S. President Donald Trump's trade salvos disrupt markets in the Americas. A price dispute with retailers meanwhile dented sales in Europe.
The company exports beer, especially its namesake lager, to the U.S. from Europe and Mexico, and has also suffered from the indirect impact on consumer confidence in key markets like Brazil.

USA, PA: Berg Brewing Company to open its doors to the public on August 1
|
A veteran-owned, elevated brew pub situated in downtown Chambersburg will be opening its doors to the public next week.
abc27 news reported back in June 2025 when two local brothers, Kyle and Adam Underkoffler, were gearing up to debut their new elevated brew pub called Berg Brewing Company, located at 100 South Main Street in downtown Chambersburg.
Previously, Kyle Underkoffler shared that the new brew-pub would give guests an elevated experience, offering in-house brewed European-style beers in addition to higher-end pub fare and dinner entrees.
The Berg Brewing Company specifically features a three-and-a-half-barrel system, which will craft a variety of beers such as European brews, IPAs, lagers, and stouts.
In regards to its size, the new brew pub boasts 4,000 square feet of space across two floors, which can accommodate up to 180 guests at a time.
On July 19, the Berg Brewing Company held an open house event, where around 1,000 people came to check out the new downtown attraction over the course of the day.
Then, on July 25, the brew pub confirmed on Facebook that they would officially be holding their soft public opening on Friday, August 1, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

USA, OH: New Enon Brewing hoping to open sometime this fall

An Enon couple is working to bring a new taproom with homegrown beers to the city for the community to enjoy, Springfield News-Sun reported on July 26.
Jon and Shelley Vanderglas are in the process of opening New Enon Brewing at 160 N. Xenia Drive.
Jon, who has been experimenting with different flavors and methods of brewing for 33 years, said the process of starting a brewing business started in 1992 after his first good brown ale homebrew.
“After going to Ohio Brew week in Athens in 2012 and visiting Jackie O’s, I realized that a brewery could offer a variety of products, be quirky, and be successful,” he said.
Jon grew up in Enon, went to Greenon Local Schools and moved away after graduation because he “needed to see the world,” he said.
He later met his wife, Shelley, and they lived in Raleigh/Durham for 10 years.
While there, Jon started homebrewing and learned about the hardwood flooring trade before moving states and joining homebrew clubs.
“Like many homebrewers, when I had a good batch, I would think, ‘This is good, I could sell this,’” he said.

USA: Suntory to consider price increases for its whisky in the US
|
Suntory Holdings will consider price increases in line with consumer sentiment for ultra-premium whisky it exports to the U.S., after the two countries struck a trade deal that set tariffs on imported Japanese goods at 15%, The Japan Times reported on July 29.
"We have to learn and read the sentiment in the United States,” Co-Chairman and CEO Takeshi Niinami said on Tuesday.
The beverage giant could still consider raising U.S. prices for premium whisky lines, Niinami said. That’s despite Suntory’s feeling — like many other Japanese firms — that the tariff is a "relief” and that it can absorb some of the added costs, he said.
Niinami said the company is "overreliant on the U.S. and Japan” and has realized the importance of emerging markets including China, Southeast Asian nations and India. Suntory said in April that it could shift products to its home market and other countries in Asia if tariffs were to make its whisky prohibitively pricey in America.
The trade pact reached earlier this month will impose levies on imports including automobiles from Japan, a key U.S. ally, while creating a $550 billion fund to make investments in America.

USA, MT: Bonsai Brewing Project in Whitefish has new owners
|
Beloved brew pub Bonsai Brewing Project in Whitefish has new owners, Daily Inter Lake reported on July 27.
Keela Smith and Graham Hart started the business over 12 years ago in a funky location inside the Mountain Mall before moving to the current location on the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Denver Street. The quality beers and freshly prepared food, along with the large yard and welcoming atmosphere, made Bonsai a favorite of locals and tourists over the years.
“For us, it felt like the right time to move on and do something different,” said Smith. “I think rather than us lose our heart in it and just let it falter because we're not putting the care into it, we [thought] it's time to let someone else take the torch and put some care into it.”
Smith and Hart were born and raised in Whitefish and currently live in Columbia Falls. They have no plans to leave the area.
“We're going to stay around. Both of our families are still here,” Smith said. “I don't know what we're going to do next, to be honest. I want to take a beat, and I want to travel some.”

South Korea: Korea relaxes food additive standards to enhance non-alcoholic beer flavor
|
South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety recently announced plans to relax food additive standards to allow the use of modified hop extract in non-alcoholic beer. Previously, this ingredient was only permitted for use in regular beer, and this measure aims to enable its application in non-alcoholic products as well. With this revision, domestic non-alcoholic beer is expected to further achieve a 'beer-like taste', Chosunbiz reported on July 28.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety completed a complete revision of the 'Standards and Specifications for Food Additives' on the 22nd. The Ministry stated, "This revision was made to enhance user convenience by restructuring the standards and specifications of food additives to meet international regulatory levels while rationally improving the usage standards of food additives to support the development of diverse food products." Until now, modified hop extract was only permitted in beer and could not be applied to non-alcoholic beer, which is not classified as alcoholic.
Non-alcoholic beer is a rapidly growing category both domestically and internationally. However, it has often been criticized for not matching the taste and aroma of regular beer. Consumer feedback has particularly pointed to the weak flavor and bitterness characteristic of hops.
