Hops news USA, OR: Oregon hop growers preparing for first round of harvest next week
Next week, many of Oregon’s hop growers begin the first round of harvest, with fresh hop beer season soon to follow as brewers pick up fresh hops from local farms for a once-a-year beer experience unique to the Pacific Northwest, The Brewer Magazine reported on August 12.

“Oregon hop growers are proud to again be the second largest hop producing state in the US,” said Michelle Palacios, executive director of the Oregon Hop Growers Association. “The Willamette Valley’s unique terroir allows us to produce hops specifically for craft brewers. And with our proximity to major brewing cities, like Portland, aka Beervana, means our hops hit brewers’ tanks within hours of harvest. Our fresh hop beer season is unlike anywhere else in America.”

According to U.S. Department of Agriculture, Oregon hop growers strung 5,421 acres in 2025 retaking second place from Idaho, which strung 5,109 acres, while Washington state continues to grow the most with 31,701 acres.

“We’ve been serving our communities for 130 years,” said Gayle Goschie, co-manager of Goschie Farms. “We’ve been fortunate enough to work with some of the most beloved Oregon breweries, which desperately need our support as beer sales are down and brewery closures are up. Nothing is more ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, TX: Manhattan Project Beer Co. plans to grow with new facility
Manhattan Project Beer Co., a Dallas-based brewery, is moving and expanding east, MSN reported.

The brewery will shift its manufacturing and distribution to a new facility in Mesquite, which is being developed by Simple Development Partners, a North Texas-based commercial real estate development firm. Manhattan Project Beer Co. will take up about half of a new 90,000-square-foot building.

The brewery’s West Dallas taproom will remain open, and the new location in Mesquite will serve as its primary production facility.

The Mesquite facility will handle the heavy lifting, Misty Sanford, co-founder of Manhattan Project, wrote in a LinkedIn post. That’s “so West Dallas can stay focused on what it does best: being the original heart of Manhattan Project,” she said.

Stephen Graham, managing partner at Simple Development, said he hopes to have the facility open by the first quarter of 2027.

“We’re going full speed ahead,” Graham said.

The facility will be located at 2050 Jane St. near U.S. Highway 80 and the Heritage Trail. Graham said the plan is to restore Jane Street by widening the road and adding a sidewalk on the residential side.

At a Mesquite Planning and Zoning Commission meeting on June 23, Karl Sanford, co-founder of Manhattan Project Beer Co., said the city ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, TN: Memphis Made Brewing Company files for bankruptcy
Memphis Made Brewing Company, one of the larger craft beer makers in the city, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, WREG.com reported on August 8.

The filing would allow the company to reorganize its finances and pay creditors. The paperwork, filed Thursday, says the company has between $1 million and $10 million in assets.

But Memphis Made may not fade away, according to a post made on the brewery’s social media Saturday.

“We’re working on a plan that will enable us to continue brewing beer and serving our community. After the reorganization process, we believe we’ll be a better brewery on the other side,” the brewery said. (see their statement below).

Memphis Made, known for styles including Fireside amber, Junt cream ale and Cat Nap IPA, is one of several breweries that opened in Memphis around 2013.

Owners Andy Ashby and Drew Barton originally opened the brewery, and later a taproom, in the Cooper-Young neighborhood. They moved the operation to a larger space on Madison in the Edge District last year. The company also operates a bar in the Memphis airport.

Memphis Made told the Memphis Business Journal they are exploring the possibility of selling the business.

The brewery released a statement on social media Saturday, assuring ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, IA: Clock House Brewing to take over Iowa Brewing Company’s operations in Cedar Rapids
Clock House Brewing will take over operations of Iowa Brewing Company’s Third Street taproom, continuing production of its brands while introducing new offerings and events, Corridor Business Journal reported on August 12.

The Cedar Rapids-based brewery announced the transition on its Facebook page in late July, noting it will maintain Iowa Brewing’s core beers, including Surf Zombies and Iowa Eagle, while producing new releases under both names.

The Iowa Brewing taproom will be renamed Clock House – 3rd Street.

Iowa Brewing Company, founded in 2016, played a significant role in the city’s craft beer sector. The brewery’s Eagle Amber, brewed by longtime head brewer Mike Wing, earned a silver medal at the World Beer Cup. Clock House Brewing acknowledged the founders’ contributions and congratulated them on their retirement.

“Since opening in 2016, Iowa Brewing has played a key role in shaping Cedar Rapids’ craft beer scene,” Clock House Brewing said in its announcement. “We are honored to continue what they started.”

The location at 708 Third St. SE will be renovated over the coming months. Plans include updating the outdoor patio, installing a small kitchen, and creating a space intended to host live music, cycling groups, and community gatherings.

Clock House Brewing said it will continue ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, WA: Boundary Bay Brewery is closing, but the beer isn’t going away
Bellingham’s beloved brewery and pub is closing this fall. One last soiree at the brewery and pub on September 20th will mark the end of a 30-year run. That is sad, especially for the locals and those who have adored Boundary Bay Brewery and Bistro for all these years, the Washington Beer Blog reported on August 11.

Since announcing the pending closure, Boundary Bay Brewery has been approached by other breweries about the possibility of using its unique recipes to contract brew the iconic beer and keep the Boundary Bay brand available to customers.

On August 11, however, Boundary Bay Brewery announced that it has agreed with another local brewery to continue producing Boundary Bay Brewery’s beers, including Scotch Ale, Cedar Dust IPA, NW Original IPA, and select seasonals.

After exploring the options, Boundary Bay decided to move forward with Black Raven Brewery in Woodinville, Washington, to brew three of its most popular flagships and select seasonals. Citing its years-long, trusted friendship with Black Raven’s owner, Beaux Bowman, and its state-of-the-art brewing facility in Woodinville, Boundary Bay owners say this is an exciting and perfect fit.

Black Raven Brewery says it is honored to continue the tradition, “The Black Raven family is ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, AZ: Tucson’s 1912 Brewing Company closing after nine years in business
Tucson’s 1912 Brewing Company is closing permanently after nine years in business. They announced on social media that a planned sale of the brewery fell through and the taproom will not reopen, Tucson Foodie reported on August 12.

“Unfortunately, our sale has fallen through. Our doors won’t be reopening,” the Congers wrote in an Instagram post on Tuesday. They thanked the community for “all the memories and your support throughout the last nine-plus years.”

The family-owned brewery had become a fixture of Tucson’s craft beer scene on the city’s west side.

Owners Alicia and Allan Conger hoped to hand off 1912 Brewing to new owners earlier this year. In February, they shared a message announcing the sale after nearly a decade at the helm. The intended buyers – described only as a local military veteran and first responder – were not publicly identified.

The brewery’s taproom closed after the Congers’ final night on Friday, Feb. 28. They expected the new owner to take over soon after. However, months passed without an update. Now the original owners have confirmed that the deal collapsed and there will be no reopening. They did not specify why the sale fell through.

The Congers opened 1912 Brewing Co. in 2015, ...More info on site

Brewery news China: Budweiser to continue to invest in China
Budweiser China, a subsidiary of Budweiser Brewing Co APAC Ltd, will continue to invest in China - one of its largest markets globally - as the market increasingly shapes the group's production network and growth strategy, a senior executive was quoted as sayingg by China Daily on August 12.

One of its flagship sites, Budweiser Sedrin Brewery in Putian, Fujian province, is among the world's largest single-site breweries in terms of production capacity. Since its establishment 40 years ago, the facility has supported the city's economic development by attracting related industries, generating employment and promoting a "beer plus tourism" model through hosting festivals and visitor programs.

Craig Katerberg, chief legal and corporate affairs officer at Budweiser APAC, said that the Putian facility's role in developing local supply chains and industrial clusters align with its long-term strategy in China, where beer consumption remains one of the largest globally.

"We will continue our investment to develop and promote the growth of the local beer industry in Putian," said Katerberg, adding that the Budweiser Sedrin Brewery is one of its parent group AB InBev's key breweries.

After decades of development, Budweiser Sedrin Brewery, as a premium production base for AB InBev's eight major beer brands, has become ...More info on site

Brewery news Spain: Spain takes number one spot in Europe for consumption and production of non-alcoholic beer
Spain has taken the number one spot in Europe for both the consumption and production of non-alcoholic beer, as drinkers increasingly swap traditional pints for alcohol-free options, Spanish News Today reported on August 11.

Industry figures show that sales of non-alcoholic beer grew by 4% in 2024, even as the overall beer market slowed slightly. Today, it accounts for 14% of all beer sold in the country and 16% of beer drunk at home. What was once a niche choice is now a mainstream part of Spanish life.

One of the reasons forthis shift is Spain’s Mediterranean drinking culture. Beer is often enjoyed with food in Spain, in company and in moderation. Around 81% of Spaniards drink beer socially, mainly in bars and restaurants, and more than one in four now choose the non-alcoholic version when the occasion calls for it, particularly if they are driving.

The Spanish Brewers Association says the change is also linked to a growing focus on health, education and responsible drinking.

“Today’s consumer values keeping their social and gastronomic habits without compromising safety,” the industry body explains.

This approach has attracted attention from international business schools, which are studying Spain as a case study in how to promote ...More info on site

Brewery news Ethiopia: Habesha Breweries offers shareholders a 5,900 birr per share buyout
Habesha Breweries S.C. has officially extended an offer to its shareholders to sell their shares at 5,900 birr each, a move that comes amidst ongoing controversy over the company’s management decisions and its registration process on the Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX), Capital Ethiopia reported on August 10.

The offer—which includes a generous 34% premium above an earlier Deloitte valuation—is part of the majority shareholder Bavaria Overseas Breweries’ (BOB) request to purchase shares from local Ethiopian shareholders. According to company communications, the sale period has been extended until August 31, 2025, to allow interested shareholders more time to participate. Shareholders are urged to visit the company’s Shareholder Relations Division to sign sale and purchase agreements under the terms outlined.

This buyout offer follows sharp disagreements among shareholders about company actions during this transitional period. Local shareholders holding roughly 63.41% of the shares have signed contracts agreeing to the sale, but some Ethiopian shareholders have expressed serious concerns. Previously, shareholders were told that share transactions would be suspended until the company’s ESX listing—expected to be completed by November 2025 under the oversight of CBE Capital Investment Bank—is finalized.

The core of the dispute arises from allegations that while minority shareholders are restricted from converting dividends ...More info on site

Brewery news Malaysia: Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia to raise beer prices in September
Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd will raise beer prices slightly on Sept 1, 2025, to protect profits amid rising costs and weak demand, as it expects beer sales volume to remain flat this year, The Edge Malaysia reported on August 12.

Managing director Stefano Clini, who said the increase would be in single digits, described the announcement as atypical because the company rarely shares pricing details publicly.

“Our objective is to protect our margin. We’re not aiming to expand them, but we are committed to ensuring they’re not eroded,” he said during a media briefing.

Clini noted that the lack of early stockpiling before Chinese New Year and lower festive demand will hurt sales, reducing annual volume by 3–4%.

He also warned that the price hike could cause a short-term dip in consumption for 2–3 months, but said it’s too early to predict the long-term effect.

That said, Clini expressed confidence in the group’s cost discipline, noting that despite investing hundreds of millions in infrastructure upgrades, the company has kept production costs stable — a rare achievement.

“That’s more than what most companies would achieve — typically, you’d expect costs to rise after such investment,” he said.

Clini added that weak consumer sentiment, inflation, and global ...More info on site
