Barley news

A judge has reversed a decision that would have allowed Canadian farmers to sell barley to North Dakota elevators, Dakota Farmer reported August 7.

The Canadian judge ruled that the Canadian Wheat Board should continue to control the sale of barley from western provinces.

In interviews with the media, North Dakota Agriculture Commissioners said the decision should be good news for barley growers in North Dakota, especially in counties along the Canadian border. Prices should be a little higher since elevators won't have the additional selling pressure from Canadian farmers.

In Canada, the decision was definitely bad news for barley producers in the short-term. The price of barley dropped 70 cents.
