Brewery news

A student has come up with a new barrel delivery product which, it is claimed, could save breweries millions of pounds, The Publican communicated on July 11. Simon Carp from Leek, in Staffordshire, has developed a mobile lifting platform to help deliver barrels, usually carried out by dray crews.

The product has already attracted investment from Coors Brewers.

Simon, who graduates from Leicester De Montfort University with a BSc (Hons) in Industrial Design next week, said: “My product will eliminate the need for the second member of staff in a dray crew.

“It’s a mobile lifting platform which is manually powered using a hydraulic pump and has been specifically designed to be a heavy duty design for off road and all weather performance. “The product can lift weights of up to 200kg over a metre in height in order to load and unload from the truck bed.”
