Wine enjoyed a good year in Ireland with sales up 7.2 per cent according to the 2007 provisional figures from the Revenue Commissioners. However, beer fared less favourably last year with sales down 0.6 per cent to 547 million litres from 2006’s 551 million litres, the Barkeeper communicated on August 18.

Irish government is reported to have received excise receipts to the amount of €464.8 million in 2007, up from 2006’s figure of €460.69 million.

Imported beers grew 47 per cent in 2007 while domestically-produced beers shrunk 16 per cent.
