Brewery news

Brewing group Heineken and supermarket chain Albert Heijn have been urged to put up the price of a case of beer which has shrunk to just a few euros, the Telegraaf reported on June, 24.

According to the anti-alcohol abuse foundation STAP, the price of a case of beer dropped below €3 at Albert Heijn supermarkets because of a supermarket price war. Albert Heijn has denied the claim.

STAP wants the government to introduce a minimum price for alcohol in an effort to help reduce alcohol abuse.

Heineken general director Philip de Ridder said the brewing group was not against a minimum price. 'We are happy to take part in any discussion,' he said.
