Barley news

The UK barley plantings for the 2010 harvest fell 19 percent to 921,000 hectares, 1,000 hectares less than previously reported, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) said in a report on December, 16.

Winter barley plantings dropped by 5.1% to 383,000 ha, whereas those of spring barley declined by 27.2% to 539,000 ha.

Of all the cereals, the largest drop was seen in the area of barley due to a combination of high stocks and low prices at time of planting, DEFRA said.
