| E-Malt.com News article: USA, MO & Washington, D.C. & MA: Boulevard Brewing makes its beer available in Washington, D. C. and Boston
Boulevard Brewing is rolling into the Washington, D.C., market, its second East Coast foray after Boston, and has hired a regional sales manager for its burgeoning operation there, The Kansas City Star reported on June, 1.
The Kansas City craft brewer, just honored by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce as its small business of the year, plans to begin selling its Smokestack series of artisanal beers this week in the Washington metropolitan area, which includes parts of Maryland and Virginia, as well as Unfiltered Wheat Beer, its most popular mass-produced beer.
Boulevard Wheat also will begin being sold in Boston. When Boulevard entered the Boston market last year, only the Smokestack series of specialized brews in 750-millileter bottles was offered.
Bob Sullivan, Boulevard’s vice president of sales and marketing, said the company decided to sell its Wheat beer in Washington and Boston to give customers an option besides its more potent Smokestack beers, which have an 8 percent or higher alcohol content.
“The thought was of somebody who grew up in the Midwest wanting to have something in their icebox every day to drink,” he said.
The new regional sales manager for the East Coast is Rob Goodyear. He will be based in Boston and is a 13-year veteran of the beer industry.
With the addition of the D.C. area, Virginia and Maryland, Boulevard beers will be sold in 26 states from coast to coast. The 23-year-old brewery on Southwest Boulevard is now the 10th largest craft brewer in the United States.
