Brewery news

Kirkwood Station Brewing Co. is in the process of registering 20 of its beers with the state in anticipation of soon distributing those beers to area bars and restaurants, STLToday.com reported on June, 1.

Kegs of the Kirkwood Station's Blackberry Wheat and American-style IPA will be the main focus of distribution, but "everything we have at the pub will be available," brewmaster Dave Johnson says.

One Kirkwood Station offering likely will be available in bottles, but on a very limited basis: a mead made with orange blossom honey. Kirkwood assistant brewer Dan Stauder and St. Louis homebrewer Dale Penrose cranked out a 40-gallon batch of the mead for bottles.

Kirkwood plans to self-distribute its beers until it decides on a wholesaler, Johnson says.

Last year, Kirkwood Station, previously known as Highlands Brewing Co., was forced to undergo a name change.

The change "complicated everything," Johnson says, putting distribution plans on hold - until now.
