E-Malt.com News article: Canada, BC: Citizens now allowed to bring wine and beer from other provinces for personal use without paying taxes

The British Columbia government is putting a cork in taxes on wine and beer brought into the province by citizens for their personal use, Canada.com reported on June, 8.

Energy Minister Rich Coleman, who's responsible for the rules on booze, says the change follows passage of a federal bill in Ottawa that will eliminate a law against people buying wine in one province and taking it home with them to another province. Coleman says B.C. residents can now bring back up to one case of wine, four bottles of spirits, and a combined total of six dozen beer, cider and coolers from other provinces without paying any taxes.

He says the change overhauls outdated rules that most people probably don't know even existed, and brings B.C in line with Ontario, Nova Scotia and Yukon.
