Brewery news

Boatyard Brewing, a Michigan-based brewery, plans to increase its footprint through a deal with Imperial Beverage as well as enhance beer production, The Drinks Business Review reported on August, 24.

Owners Brian Steele and Dan Gilligan will begin brewing in October-December 2012 on the existing 1/2 barrel system at the 2,700 square-foot rented property.

Steele and Gilligan, along with signing a deal with Imperial Beverage, are also moving ahead with plans to purchase the property.

Steele said that the distribution contract will be flexible should laws in Michigan change after they begin selling beer with Imperial.

Earlier in June, the Michigan Office of Regulatory Reinvention recommended changes to Michigan's liquor control system to allow microbrewers to directly ship their beer to consumers, sell products to wholesalers or at retail locations for consumption on or off the licensed premises.

Boatyard has scheduled an investors meeting on September, 14 to discuss financing and distribution and also raise $300,000.

Steele also said that it will take about 16 weeks to complete the project, after which the brewery will possibly produce 5,000 barrels a year.
