| E-Malt.com News article: USA, TX: Fort Bend Brewing to open in Missourri
Fort Bend Brewing Co. has a home in Missouri City and brewing equipment en route. The owners hope to be selling beer by Halloween, Chron.com reported on August, 25.
The founders of this Missouri City enterprise are Ty and Sharon Coburn, and they bring financial means (Ty was a software executive for more than 20 years) and loads of enthusiasm to the effort. The couple enlisted a friend and homebrewer, Ray Self, and then hired a brewer with 15 years experience. That brewer, Chris Leonard of Philadelphia, had just wrapped up a consulting job for a craft brewery in Peru and initially started working with the Coburns in a similar capacity. “I see the opportunity here, and I’m really excited about it,” he said.
The Fort Bend Brewing folks aren’t the only ones who see opportunity in the local area’s exploding beer scene. Two other craft breweries also are in active development. Once all are open, greater Houston will have eight crafts.
Ty Coburn hopes to be selling beer — Texas Backyard Blonde, Texas Farmhouse Ale, Texas Lightning India pale ale and Texas Thunder stout — by Halloween, but an early taste will take place next Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Brewmasters Craft Beer Festival at Moody Gardens in Galveston. Fort Bend Brewing will be one of the eight participants in the festival’s Texas Brewery Tasting Tour.
