Longmont's newest craft brewery, 300 Suns Brewing, is planning an October opening at a still-to-be-determined site, according to Jean Ditslear, one of the six principals in the new operation, tilescall.com reported on March, 12.

"We're honing in on what we want as our opening-day beers," said Ditslear, who will serve as marketing manager.

Dan Ditslear, her husband, will be operations manager for 300 Suns.

The other founders are Mark Lusher, 300 Suns' "beer smith"; Jonathan Willett, culinary manager; Candace Newcomb, financial manager; and Lauren Greenfield, events manager.

Getting community involvement is important, Jean Ditslear said, and they plan to do that in a number of ways. One of those ways is to solicit home-brewers to submit their beers, with a panel of local beer enthusiasts deciding which will be served on tap at 300 Suns. The plan is to feature that "collabeeration" at least six times a year, she said.

"It's a nice way to have home-brewers have their beers on tap, and we just feel like there's not enough of that going on," Jean Ditslear said.

While a final location hasn't yet been chosen, they are settled on opening a space in Longmont, she said.

Several breweries have opened in nearby communities in recent months but 300 Suns will be the first new craft brewer to open in Longmont in several years.
