| E-Malt.com News article: Dominican Republic: Dominican National Brewery reveals 20% drop in beer sales since takeover by Ambev
Dominican National Brewery executives visited president Danilo Medina in the National Palace on April, 11, when they revealed plummeting beer sales resulting from higher taxes passed by Congress late last year, Dominican Today reports.
Brewery president Franklin Leon said beer sales have fallen 20% compared to last year, but noted that the brewery isn’t having financial difficulties.
The drop in sales comes exactly one year Brazilian beverage giant Ambev announced the purchase of a majority stake in the local brewery,
The executive said Medina revealed that the government plans some measure expected to cause a change in the economy, but didn’t specify. "The brewery’s sales volumes are down, they are not as we would like, because of the economic situation after the tax reform."
