The release of the much-anticipated Mad Elf the week of October 13-19 isn't the only big news coming out of Troegs Brewing Company in Hershey.

The craft brewer is in the midst of an expansion project and is rolling out a "cork and cage" bottling line and a canning line. And, just this week Troegs added more hardware to its lengthy list of accolades, reports Penn Live on October 17.

Troegs took home two medals on October 10-12 at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, CO.

It won a gold for its Troegenator Double Bock and a bronze for its Sunshine Pils. It has won multiple awards for its beers through the years dating back to 2007.

In addition, the brewery will add 24 fermentation tanks with eight of the tanks now awaiting delivery from Baltimore. Co-owner Chris Trogner said it is one of the brewery's largest expansion projects since its move two years ago from Harrisburg to Hershey.

A pad for the 50-foot high tanks has been prepared at the brewery off of Hersheypark Drive. Each tank will hold 800 barrels of beer, or the equivalent of 10,000 cases of beer, he said.

This fall, Troegs started its "cork and cage" line bottling larger sized bottles such as LaGrave, a triple golden ale fermented with a Belgian yeast strain. It will be available in 4-pack 375 ml bottles at the end of the month at Troegs' General Store and some retailers in Pennsylvania.

Troegs' rendition of a pumpkin beer, its Master of Pumpkins, also will be released in 750 ml cork and cage bottles and is due out around Halloween.

The larger sized bottles have a cork, rather than a pry-off lid. Brewers often use the bottles for specialty or high-alcohol content beers.

Later this year, beer drinkers will be able to purchase cans of Troegs beers. The brewer is following a recent trend as more craft producers introduced products in aluminum cans.

Troegs is testing a new canning line with products expected to hit retail stores around Thanksgiving, Trogner. Perpetual IPA and Troegenator will be the first beers to be produced in cans.

Trogner said the addition of the new bottles and cans as well as the increased capacity will allow Troegs to continue to produce more products and remain flexible.

"I think that's what makes a craft brewer more interesting. We are bringing a ton of different beers with a ton of different influences," Trogner said.
