Brewery news

West Sacramento’s Jackrabbit Brewing Company is making a bunny hop to the big leagues, with plans to expand its brewery and open a public taproom by late September or early October, SacTown Magazine reported on June 23.

In the coming months, Jackrabbit will expand from 1,500 to 4,500 square feet with a public taproom that would be open on the weekends, a front patio and bar area. Launched in 2011, Jackrabbit is currently a production-only brewery that operates out of its location in a West Sacramento business park down the road from Yolo Brewing Company and Bike Dog Brewing Co.

“We have an opportunity to create a unique brewery community right here,” says co-founder Chris Powell. “People can go to three breweries within walking distance of each other, and I think that’s something unique for the whole region.”

Powell says the taproom will maintain the look and feel of the current industrial space, with exposed pipes on the ceilings and polished cement floors. Brewing operations will also grow to include more fermenters, tanks and kegs, with the hopes of having about 10 beers on tap once the brewery is up and running.

Jackrabbit plans a pre-construction kickoff party scheduled for sometime in late July that will give patrons an opportunity to view the brewery space before demolition, sample free beer and sign up for an exclusive growler club.

Unlike many California breweries that focus on hop-heavy IPAs, Jackrabbit is known for its Belgian Abbey ale (with fruity, malty undertones) and its signature saison, a blonde Belgian that finishes with a crisp tartness. Currently, Jackrabbit’s beers can be found on taps at places around town like Broderick Roadhouse, Tank House and Streets of London Pub.
