Lakewood Brewing Co. LLC has completed its expansion to its Garland-based brewery, which more than doubles the brew-making business' footprint, Dallas Business Journal reported on March 11.
The expansion gives Lakewood the ability to double its production capacity and represents the next big step in growing the local brewery, said Wim Bens, founder and president of Lakewood Brewing.
"Everything we've worked for since we sold our first keg in 2012 has been leading to this moment," said Bens, in a written statement. "Our goal has always been to provide DFW with the highest quality beers for any occasion, and this expansion allows us to keep that promise."
Last year, Lakewood Brewing bought the building next to its Dallas facility at 2302 Executive Drive, bulldozed it and built a new 14,000-square-foot building adjacent to its original 11,000-square-foot brewery.
The expansion gives way to 8,000 square feet of new product space and a larger, 2,000-square-foot taproom and new canning line. In April, the new canning line will prep Lakewood Lager, Rock Ryder and a new session IPA, Hopochondria for distribution.
Lakewood also entered into a third-party distribution agreement with Andrews, which will bring Lakewood to the masses and help the three-year-old company continue its growth spurt.
Bens plans to hold a ribbon cutting on the expansion on Thursday, March 19. The doors of the expansion will open to the public in a grand opening celebration on Saturday, April 4.
