Longmont's eighth brewery, Skeye Brewing, is opening this week, and city officials believe the city can support even more, Longmont Times-Call reported on June 15.

Skeye Brewing will open its doors and taps at 900 S. Hover St., Longmont, on June 19.

"We chose Longmont because Longmont needs more breweries," said Kami Malanowski, a Marine Corps veteran who is co-owner and head brewer for the brew house. "We've worked hard to make sessionable, flavourful, well-balanced beers, and we want to share them with the craft beer drinkers in the city that we call home."

Longmont now has eight breweries.

"Oh we could have more," Kami Malanowski said. "It's a real brotherhood-sisterhood. We help each other out a lot. The more we have, the more people are going to come here. And that helps all of us out."

"Even the bigger breweries are helping out the small ones," Allen added.

City officials agree that Longmont is far from reaching saturation point.

"I'm not concerned about market saturation with breweries because so many of our local firms are already exporting product - or planning to - outside of Longmont," added Longmont's assistant city manager Shawn Lewis, who works on economic development issues for the city. "This is not only good for the brewers but also for Longmont's economy by bringing revenue into the community from outside."

But just opening the door to a new craft beer outlet doesn't guarantee success, as more of them pop up across the county and state.

"There will come a point where it could be hard to differentiate," said Bart Watson, chief economist for the Brewers Association, based in Boulder. "Can one stand out from a growing field?"
