Hendersonville's first downtown brewery, Sanctuary Brewing Company, opened on August 28, drawing a big crowd for craft beer, Hendersonville Lightning reported on August 29.

"We were slammed," co-owner Lisa McDonald said.

McDonald and her partner, master brewer Joe Dinan, have created the 4,000-square-foot bar at 147 E. First Avenue, Hendersonville. Although they have not yet received a federal permit allowing them to brew and pour their own beer, they opened with more than a dozen flavours from other local craft breweries.

Sanctuary Brewing Company will make small batch artisanal ales in classic styles like Belgian farmhouse ales, American stouts and West Coast IPAs. The Hendersonville City Council made the brewery possible by amending the city ordinance to allow the use in the central business district.
