Two craft breweries are set to open at the end of Louisville’s Craft Beer Week (September 11-20), The Courier-Journal reported on September 17.
Floyd County Brewing in New Albany, which has run on a limited schedule since September 8, will start its full-time hours on September 18, while 3rd Turn Brewing in Jeffersontown opens its doors for the first time on September 18 during the city's annual Gaslight Festival.
Floyd County Brewing’s owner Brian Hampton and 3rd Turn Brewing’s brewmaster Ben Shinkle both said they have been working on their respective breweries nonstop and that they're happy to see the buildings completed.
"It took forever," Hampton said. "It's pretty exhausting right now, but we have a full staff, a pretty good crew. They're pulling together right now."
Earlier this summer, Hampton had said he hoped to open Floyd County Brewing by July with the help of head brewer Josh Hill. But he faced a setback when Hill left the position to return to his previous employer at New Albanian Brewing Company. Hampton has since hired experienced brewer Jeff Coe to lead the beer side of the business.
When it opens on September 18, Floyd County Brewing will offer at least five of its own beers on tap and four or five guest beers.
“3rd Turn Brewing will have between 30 and 35 beers on tap and others in cans, though none of the beers will be its own,” Shinkle said.
"All of our brewing vessels will be in two weeks after Gaslight," Shinkle said. "We'll start brewing right away and phase beers in as they're ready."
