Brewery news

Fate Brewing Co. plans to increase its beer-brewing capacity by expanding into space that formerly housed Avery Brewing Co. at 5763 Arapahoe Ave. in Boulder, BizWest reported on November 20.

Currently, Fate is producing about 4,000 barrels a year at it brewpub at 1600 38th St. in Boulder, and will have the capacity to produce an additional 50,000 barrels, the amount Avery was able to produce per year at its old site.

Alyssa Lundgren, Fate’s chief operating officer, said Fate will operate pubs and breweries at both locations.

The company is leasing the added 13,000 square feet of space from Avery, and has purchased equipment that will increase its fermentation capability by more than 80 percent.

Of the 13,000 square feet, Fate will use about 8,000 square feet for a second pub and warehouse space and use 5,000 square feet for brewing. Fate’s current brew space is about 7,000 square feet and its brewpub is 3,500 square feet.

Fate has the ability to brew 10 barrels per batch at its current site on 38th Street, and 35 barrels per batch at the old Avery site.

Since opening in February 2013, Fate has won several awards including a Gold Medal in the German Style Kölsch category at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival for Laimas Kölsch Style Ale and a Bronze Medal in the Pro-Am category at the 2015 GABF for single-hopped Citra IPA.

Boulder-based Fate Brewing recently signed on with Elite Brands of Colorado for statewide distribution and released three new canned products.
