Now the malting barley inspection before trade is going to be made by modern technology. This means that the machine is going to assess grain size, germination, nitrogen and moisture content of malting barley. According to a report from Farmer’s Weekly, this modern technology axes the Britain’s National Malting Barley Contest and breaks a 100 year old tradition where maltsters had to submit samples of barley to individual brewers for approval before malt sales were agreed.
