Brewery news

Triangle Brewing Company announced on April 15 it will go out of business in two weeks, News & Observer reported.

The brewery at 918 Pearl St. has been part of the Durham social scene for nearly a decade. It opened shortly after legislators in 2005 raised the cap on how much alcohol can be in beer sold in North Carolina – a move that ushered in the state’s booming craft beer scene.

Triangle Brewing was Durham’s first brewery when it started in 2007. Once it’s gone, Durham will be home to five beer breweries, a cider brewery, a distillery and many craft beer-focused bottle shops. A handful of new breweries are planning to open in the near future.

“On Saturday, April 30th we will send this venture out in style,” co-founders Rick Tufts and Andy Miller wrote in a Facebook post announcing the closing. “The brewery’s doors will open at 4 p.m. and stay open until the last drop of beer is gone.”

Officially, they said, May 2 will be the last day – but that prior Saturday will be the final party.
