| E-Malt.com News article: USA, VA: Three Notch’d Brewing Co. completes work on its brewery in Richmond
A Charlottesville craft beer maker has completed work on its brewery and tasting room in Richmond’s Scott’s Addition neighborhood, with a grand opening event scheduled for October 1st, Richmond.com reported.
Three Notch’d Brewing Co. is operating its Richmond brewery and tasting room in a 4,000-square-foot leased space at 2930 W. Broad St., adjacent to the co-working space Gather.
The Scott’s Addition brewery is the third location for Three Notch’d Brewing.
It opened its first brewery in Charlottesville in 2013 and a second one in Harrisonburg the next year. After completing a recent capital raise from private investors, the company is planning to open two other locations in the state — in Northern Virginia and at an as-yet undisclosed site.
“We like the tasting-room concept, and having a couple of them across the state will let people really get to know the brand,” said Scott Roth, Three Notch’d Brewing’s president.
The Richmond brewery’s emphasis will be on collaborative beer, meaning it will make customized, small-batch beers for restaurants in the area, and it will work with local nonprofit organizations to make custom craft beers specifically for community events and philanthropic fundraisers.
“It is a great way to get engaged with the local community,” said George Kastendike, the company’s CEO.
The Richmond brewery had a soft opening on September 26, attended by invited guests and Gov. Terry McAuliffe, Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade Todd P. Haymore, and Virginia Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry Basil I. Gooden.
The brewery will be open for limited hours of 4 to 8 p.m. this week. Its official grand opening is on Saturday from noon to 10 p.m., when it will serve five locally brewed beers, including its Hops Addition IPA and its Fernet Saison. The Richmond head brewer is Stefan McFayden.
The brewery also will serve its flagship beers made in Charlottesville, including its 40 Mile IPA, Ghost Pale Ale and Hydraulion Red Ale, and some specialty and seasonal beers such as its Biggie S’mores imperial stout.
A live band and food trucks are being planned for Saturday’s event.
Three Notch’d joins a growing list of specialty beverage makers that have opened in Scott’s Addition. That includes breweries Ardent Craft Ales, The Veil Brewing and Isley Brewing Co., and cideries Busky Cider and Blue Bee Cider.
