A plan to bring a brewery to the Gateway Business District in Beloit is moving forward with construction.
The G5 Brewing Company, 1895 Gateway Boulevard, is set to open in July, according to owner Lee Gunderson, the Beloit Daily News reported on November 22.
Work at the site by Rockford Structures Construction began on Halloween. Work on the grounds, including building the driveway to the future brewery, is still in progress.
Work on a rock wall along the driveway and a rock barrier will get completed before any foundation work for the future brewery, Gunderson said.
Gunderson recently met with Rockford Structures Construction crews to go over the construction timeline.
"We've been looking forward to construction," Gunderson added. "It's been in the planning stages for the last two-and-a-half years."
A zoning map amendment for the brewery was approved in February and the Beloit City Council approved an amendment to allow outdoor seating at the establishment.
The brewery will include a restaurant, outdoor seating and a patio area.
A menu for the restaurant is currently being drafted, and more information will be available closer to the opening date, according to the website.
In terms of brewing, the business could start with a 10-barrel brewing system, or a system capable of handling 310 gallons of beer every batch. The brewery will offer a variety of lagers, India Pale Ales, stouts, ales and porters.
The brewery and restaurant is projected to employ 50 to 70 full-time workers in the around-9,750-square-foot facility. Brewhouse Consultant and Nationally Certified Master Beer Judge Keith Symonds was hired to help establish the G5 Brewing brand.
