Sun King Brewery has announced it will open a specialty-production craft brewery and tap room in The Yard, the planned culinary complex in Fishers, the Indianapolis Star reported on January 23.

The 13,000-square-foot brewery will be two stories with a rooftop patio and will produce 5,000 barrels a year. Carry-out beer will be sold, and rental space will be available for private and community events.

At The Yard, Sun King will focus on developing handcrafted, specialty beers that experiment with different ingredients, styles and methods, according to a news release from the company.

"Sun King Brewery started in a space about the size of what we are building in Fishers, intent on experimenting with new ingredients and techniques to create what we love — delicious, quality craft beer inspired by all that is Indiana," Clay Robinson, co-founder of Sun King Brewery, said in a statement. "And while we've grown rapidly over the years, we remain committed to crafting the highest quality beer and are excited to open a new brewery that allows us to get back to our roots and to continue to innovate."

The Yard, at 116th Street and I-69, is a planned dining complex that will include up to 18 restaurants and a “culinary accelerator,” where chefs can experiment with new concepts. Developer Thompson Thrift already announced that two St. Elmo restaurants, Burger Study and 1933 Lounge, have agreed to move in.

In 2015, Sun King opened a tap room and small-batch brewery in Fishers, while it put on hold a $10 million destination brewery on land it purchased at the corner of Kincaid and Sunlight drives.

Fisher's Mayor Scott Fadness, in a statement, called Sun King “an iconic Indiana business … that will attract residents and visitors, alike."

Its 15,000-square-foot distillery, called Sun King Spirits, will open this spring along the Monon Trail in Midtown Carmel.
