| E-Malt.com News article: USA, OH: Ohio Brewing Co. applies for state permit to launch production brewery in Columbus
Ohio Brewing Co. is expanding its territory, the Akron Beacon Journal reported on April 17.
Ohio, which is in the process of opening a brewpub in Cuyahoga Falls, has applied for a state permit to launch a production brewery and taproom in the Italian Village neighborhood in Columbus.
Brewery co-founder Chris Verich said Tuesday that Ohio has partnered with New Besa LLC and the Velio family to open the Columbus site, which will be located at 421 E. Second Ave. The Velio family runs bars and restaurants in Central Ohio.
“They are really good people,” Verich said. “We’re happy to partner with them.”
The plan is to open a 30-barrel brewhouse with a large beer hall. The brewery also will produce beer to distribute on draft and in bottles — and possibly cans.
“It’s finally an opportunity to meet the demand for our products,” Verich said about the production brewery.
Ohio is known for brands such as Verich Gold, O’Hoppy Ale and Jingle Bell Ale. He hopes the Columbus brewery and taproom could open as soon as late summer.
Meanwhile, the Cuyahoga Falls brewpub, 2250 Front St., hopes to open in early summer.
The brewpub, which is nearly 15,000 square feet, will be “really special,” Verich said, with an open air kitchen, live music, ample parking and an arcade with pinball, video games, air hockey and Skee-Ball.
The well-traveled Ohio Brewing last operated as a brewpub in the Highland Square neighborhood in Akron. The brewery announced plans last year to relocate to Cuyahoga Falls and the Highland Square location reopened as the Barmacy Bar & Grill.
