| E-Malt.com News article: Russia: Barley exports drop 12.7% in July-October 2018
According to preliminary information of market participants, Russian exporters shipped abroad 2.2 mln tonnes of barley during the four months in MY 2018/19 (July-October), or 12.7% less than in the same period last year, UkrAgroConsult reported on December 17.
October barley exports totaled 500.9 thousand tonnes (excluding the Customs Union). This is up 4.9% from the previous month but 12.9% less than in October 2017/18.
Compared with a year ago, July-October 2018/19 witnessed a substantial decline in Russian barley supplies to markets such as Saudi Arabia (-8%), Iran (-32%), and Turkey (-54%).
At the same time, higher demand for Russian barley was seen from the European Union, which imported as much as 91.8 thousand tonnes in the reporting period against 30.7 thousand in July-October 2017/18. Shipments to Jordan were boosted as well: the country purchased 279.7 thousand tonnes of barley during these months, or 82% more than in July-October 2017/18 (153.3 thousand tonnes).
