| E-Malt.com News article: USA, WA: Other Wonders Beer coming to Bellingham by next spring
A new brewery is coming to Bellingham that plans to offer a bit of European flair as a Sunnyland neighborhood hangout, the Bellingham Herald reported on May 11.
Ben Howe and Karolina Lobrow are building Other Wonders Beer, which will serve as a brewery and cafe. It’ll be a small, neighborhood operation serving rustic lagers and farmhouse ales as well as veggie-inspired street food, Lobrow said.
The brewery is going into a new building in the 2100 block of Humboldt Street, next to Kramer Knives and near Homeskillet. The building also will be home to Seattle’s Stewart Wurtz Furniture, Lobrow said. The brewery will have an upper level that has a view of Mount Baker.
The plan is to have the brewery/cafe ready by next spring. Howe said he wants to focus on the light, dry German lagers he came to enjoy while in Europe.
With a small production facility, they envision the brewery as a low-key setting and also want to be a part of Bellingham’s art community.
“I see it as a cozy tavern with plants, a lot of light and funky couches,” Lobrow said in a phone interview.
Lobrow, who went to Western Washington University and then volunteered for the Peace Corps, brought Howe to this area. They decided this was the place to start their business. Bellingham has become well-known for its breweries, and it’s a place that encourages creativity when it comes to brewing beer, she said.
